Homemade BBQ Sauce

A smoky-sweet homemade barbecue sauce with chipotle peppers in adobo, molasses and brown sugar.

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 240ml ketchup
  • 80ml molasses
  • 65g soft brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp minced chipotle peppers in adobo sauce
  • 4 tbsp distilled vinegar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Dash of salt
Instructions
  1. Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Add the garlic and onion and cook for 5 minutes, stirring, taking care not to burn them.
  2. Reduce the heat to low. Add the ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, chipotle peppers, vinegar (or less to taste), Worcestershire sauce and salt, and stir together.
  3. Simmer for 20 minutes. Taste and adjust with more spice or sugar as needed.
